A fun and verifiable fact about the village of South Thomaston, Maine is that it was once home to the largest granite quarry in the world. The quarry produced granite for many famous buildings and monuments, including the Brooklyn Bridge, Grand Central Terminal, and the Washington Monument. Today, the quarry is no longer in operation but the village still has many beautiful examples of granite architecture.
