A fun and verifiable fact about the village of Limerick, Maine is that it was once home to Olga Hirshhorn, the wife of the late Joseph H. Hirshhorn who founded the Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden in Washington D.C. Olga Hirshhorn opened a private museum in Limerick, called the Olga Hirshhorn Gallery, which housed an impressive collection of modern art from the 1960s to 1990s. The museum was closed after Olga's death in 1995, but its legacy lives on through the Hirshhorn Museum and her philanthropic efforts in the community.
