Born and raised in West Michigan, the son of a builder, I joined the family business after graduating college. I started out learning the trade, apprenticed with my dad and soon after got my builders license. At the encouragement of my father, I also earned my real estate sales license and 3 years later my real estate brokers license. I spent the next several decades building and selling hundreds of custom homes. During that time my father retired and I took over sole ownership of Groot Builders and Realty.
I am now at the stage referred to as the retirement stage and it has brought me to 2 conclusions: First, I wanted to enjoy more time with my wife, children and grandchildren and second, I still want to work. After much thought and discussion with my wife, I determined the best way to accomplish this was to retire from the building side of the business and focus only on real estate.
As a real estate agent, my building experience brings a unique perspective when helping buyers buy or sell a home. Im not simply a salesperson, I am a trusted advocate that counsels and assists my clients when making the biggest purchase of their life. I see things from a builders perspective and that adds GREAT VALUE to my clients! I enjoy my work, work hard for my clients and love helping them!
A few years ago, my brother Jack sold his business and joined me in real estate and most recently my son-in-law Matt joined the team as a salesperson. Working together as family in business brings a level of trust, support and value hard to find in many businesses today. I like to describe us as a small real estate agency that exceeds the value of a large one. Our knowledge base, decades of experience in construction, real estate and business bring value to every customer we serve.
On the personal side, I am happily married to Marianne, my best friend and between us we have 9 children and 13 grandchildren. We are involved members of our local church, enjoy traveling, biking, hiking, golf, working in the yard, entertaining friends at our home, and most of all spending time with family.
