Kara has been a real estate agent with Drummond Island Realty since April of 2017. Born and raised on Drummond Island, Kara studied at the University of Sheffield in England and graduated from DePaul University in Chicago, Illinois in 1998 from the honors marketing program with a Bachelor of Science degree in business administration. After graduation, she moved to Petoskey to work in the marketing department at Bay Harbor where she was one of a two-person team responsible for marketing the development as a whole including their real estate company and properties and the opening of The Village. A couple of years later, she welcomed the opportunity to move home when a marketing manager position at Drummond Island Resort and Conference Center became available. In 2001, she realized her entrepreneurial aspirations when she opened Island Cottage Bed & Breakfast and Gifts where she ran a retail boutique. After having her first child with husband Joe, she sold the property and spent the next few years primarily raising their three kids while volunteering for various local organizations, including serving on the Drummond Island Tourism Board as secretary, the Drummond Island Parent Volunteer Group as treasurer and as a founding member of the Drummond Island Fall on the Island Festival. During this time, she took on projects on a part-time basis at Drummond Island Yacht Haven where she currently works as their marketing coordinator. At the Yacht Haven, she also provides customer service to their many resort and marina visitors, as well as, support to their construction team. Having held her real estate license since 1999, she looks forward to combining her knowledge and love of Drummond Island, her interest in real estate and home renovation with her marketing experience and enthusiasm for meeting new and interesting people while working at Drummond Island Realty.
