Gladwin County is a beautiful county located in the central part of the Lower Peninsula of the great state of Michigan. Its story began in 1831 when the Saginaw Treaty was signed with local Native American tribes. The county was officially established on April 1, 1875, although the region had been occupied and utilized by fur traders and lumberjacks for many years before that. Named after British Major Henry Gladwin, a hero of the British forces during Pontiac's Rebellion, the county has played a crucial role in the economic growth of Michigan.

Over time, Gladwin County's economy progressed from relying on natural resources like lumber to branching out into agriculture and manufacturing industries. The establishment of railroads in the late 19th and early 20th centuries helped connect the county to larger markets and facilitated economic growth in the area. Today, the county is known for its scenic landscapes, recreational activities, and growing tourism industry.

One fun fact about Gladwin County is that its two largest cities, Beaverton and Gladwin City, are nicknamed "Beaver City" and "Gem of the North," respectively. These charming cities offer their residents and visitors plenty of opportunities to engage in outdoor activities such as fishing, hunting, and hiking throughout the county's 515 square miles of breathtaking wilderness.
