Gogebic County is located in the western Upper Peninsula of Michigan. As of the 2010 census, the population was 16,427. The county seat is Bessemer. The county has a total area of 1,684 square miles, of which 1,638 square miles is land and 46 square miles (2.7%) is water.

The population of Gogebic County is mostly made up of white Americans, with 92.9% of the population being white, 3.2% Native American, 0.5% African American, 0.9% Asian, 0.2% Pacific Islander, and 2.3% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race made up 2.8% of the population.

The median income for a household in the county was $36,470, and the median income for a family was $44,879. About 17.7% of families and 22.6% of the population were below the poverty line.

Gogebic County is home to several small towns and villages as well as a few larger cities such as Ironwood and Bessemer. The county is largely rural with much of its land being used for timber production and mining operations. The county also has a long history of recreational activities such as fishing, hunting, snowmobiling, and skiing in its many lakes and forests.
