Macomb County, located in the southeastern region of the great state of Michigan, was officially established on January 15, 1818, and named after General Alexander Macomb, a prominent figure in the War of 1812, a war hero, and later the Commanding General of the United States Army. The county is part of the Detroit Metropolitan Area, with its county seat being the city of Mount Clemens. Covering an area of approximately 482 square miles, it is bordered by Lake Saint Clair to the east and the famous Clinton River cutting through the northern region.
In its early years, Macomb County was primarily an agricultural community, with several French-Canadian settlers arriving from Detroit around 1780. The county experienced significant growth and transformation during the 19th and 20th centuries, with the emergence of industries such as automotive manufacturing, defense, and technology. These developments led to a steady increase in population, which today stands at around 871,000 residents, making it the third-most populous county in Michigan.
Macomb County is home to the Selfridge Air National Guard Base, an important military facility for the state of Michigan, and various famous automotive companies, such as General Motors and Ford.
A fun fact about Macomb County is that it's known for the Michigan Peach Festival, which started in 1931 and takes place annually in the city of Romeo. The festival features various events celebrating the delicious peach harvest and is a cultural highlight of the county.
