Oakland County, located in the southeastern part of Michigan, was founded on March 28, 1820, and is part of the Detroit metropolitan area. The county was originally part of Wayne County, but as population and settlements grew, Oakland County was established to accommodate the expanding population. It was named after the large stands of oak trees found in the area.

Many Potawatomi Native Americans originally inhabited the land that now encompasses Oakland County. The first European settlers began to arrive in the early 1800s, with many of them being migrants from New England states like Vermont, Connecticut, and New York.

The area went through rapid development and growth during the 19th and 20th centuries, with the establishment of important towns like Pontiac, Royal Oak, and Rochester. Transportation upgrades, like the arrival of the railway system in the 19th century, also played a vital role in the county's growth.

Today, Oakland County is a thriving region of Michigan, known for its many iconic landmarks, stately homes, and rich cultural scene. It is home to numerous Fortune 500 companies, making it a crucial economic hub for the state.

Fun fact: Oakland County has more than 1,400 freshwater lakes, the most significant being the stunning Cass Lake. This abundance of lakes provides a myriad of recreational activities, including swimming, boating, and fishing, for both residents and visitors.
