Gwinn, Michigan was originally established as a company town in the early 1900s by the Cleveland-Cliffs Iron Company, which operated a large iron ore processing facility in the area. The village was named after R. D. Gwinn, a vice president of the company at the time. Today, Gwinn is a small community of approximately 1,900 residents and serves as a hub for outdoor recreation, including hunting, fishing, hiking and snowmobiling, due to its location in the scenic Upper Peninsula of Michigan.
