Faribault County is located in southern Minnesota and is named after Jean-Baptiste Faribault, a fur trader of French-Canadian descent who was influential in the area during the early 19th century. The county was officially established on February 20, 1855, and has its seat in Blue Earth, which is also one of the largest towns in the county.
Before the arrival of European settlers, the land was inhabited by various Native American tribes, including the Dakota Sioux. The region was explored by the French and the British before eventually becoming part of the United States through the Louisiana Purchase in 1803.
