Sherburne County is located in the great state of Minnesota, USA. Established by the territorial legislature in 1856, the county is named after Moses Sherburne, an associate justice of the Supreme Court of Minnesota Territory. Covering an area of 451 square miles, it is situated within the Upper Midwest region of the United States. Sherburne County became a part of the Stearns County until 1858, when it became independent.

Originally, the area was mainly inhabited by the Sioux and Ojibwe (Chippewa) tribes. The first permanent European settlers arrived in the mid-19th century, mainly consisting of people of German, Irish, and Swedish descent. In its early years, Sherburne County's economy primarily focused on agriculture, forestry, and milling industries, with the Mississippi River serving as the primary transportation route for its products.

Over the years, Sherburne County has witnessed growth and development, with construction of railroads and highways, including the Northern Pacific, Great Northern, and I-94, which contributed to the expansion of its economy and population. Today, the county is home to a mix of suburban and rural communities, natural parks, and recreation areas.
