Front of the US quarter dollar coin   Minnesota State Quarter

The Minnesota state quarter was created in 2005 as part of the United States Mint's 50 State Quarters Program. The design of the Minnesota quarter features a Native American chieftain on the reverse side, a reference to the state's Native American heritage, with a background of a woodland scene and a wild rice stalk. The words "Minnesota" and "1858" are also inscribed, referring to the year Minnesota was admitted to the Union as the 32nd state. The obverse side of the quarter features the same portrait of George Washington that appears on all 50 State Quarters.

The symbols on the Minnesota quarter have a variety of meanings. The wild rice stalk is a traditional food source of the Native American peoples of Minnesota and symbolizes the state's natural resources. The woodland scene in the background is meant to represent Minnesota's vast forests. The Native American chieftain is a reference to the state's Native American heritage. The inscription of the date 1858 is a reminder of the year that Minnesota became a state. Finally, the portrait of George Washington is a reminder of the ideals of democracy and freedom.

The second Minnesota State Quarter

The Minnesota National Park quarter, released in 2020, is part of the America the Beautiful Quarters Program, an initiative of the U.S. Mint that honors 56 national parks and other national sites across the country. The Minnesota quarter features a scene of a loon swimming in a lake, with a pine tree in the background. The loon is a symbol of Minnesota, and the pine tree is a symbol of the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness, which is featured in the quarter. The quarter also features the inscriptions "Boundary Waters," "Minnesota," "2020," and "E Pluribus Unum." The America the Beautiful Quarters Program was created in 2010 as a way to honor America's national parks and sites, and to promote the beauty of the United States. The program is also intended to increase public awareness of the nation's natural resources.
