Washington, Missouri is known as the "corn cob pipe capital of the world". The first corn cob pipes were made in the area by a German immigrant named Henry Tibbe in the late 1860s, and since then the city has become known for producing high-quality corn cob pipes that are still popular today. In fact, the Missouri Meerschaum Company, the world's oldest and largest manufacturer of corn cob pipes, is based in Washington.
