Camden County, located in the great state of Missouri, was officially created on January 29, 1841, under the name Kinderhook County, named after President Martin Van Buren's (the then-US president) nickname "Old Kinderhook." Later, on February 23, 1843, the county was renamed to Camden County in honor of Charles Pratt, the 1st Earl Camden, a British Whig statesman who advocated for civil liberties and opposed the Stamp Act.

The county lies in the heart of the Ozark region, which is known for its enchanting landscapes, rolling hills, and pristine lakes. The region's terrain played a significant role in shaping its history, as it offered an ideal environment for agriculture, industry, and trade. Camden County is home to a portion of the Lake of the Ozarks, a popular recreational hub that attracts many tourists year-round thanks to its variety of outdoor and water-related activities.

A fun fact about Camden County is that it holds the record for the largest fish caught in Missouri - a 134-pound paddlefish caught in the Lake of the Ozarks. The lake is also home to Bagnell Dam, an impressive structure built in 1931 that played a key role in creating the Lake of the Ozarks and generating hydroelectric power for the region.

Today, Camden County's rich history and natural beauty make it a popular destination for residents and visitors alike, as they explore its numerous parks, historical sites, and scenic surroundings.
