Christian County is located in the southwestern part of the great state of Missouri. Established on March 8, 1859, it was named in honor of William Christian, a Kentucky soldier of the American Revolutionary War and a notable figure in the early years of the United States.

The county is part of the Springfield metropolitan area, with the county seat being Ozark. It experienced rapid population growth from the late 20th century, making it one of Missouri's fastest-growing counties. Its population skyrocketed from 22,402 in 1990 to over 88,000 as of the 2020 census.
