Gasconade County is located in the eastern-central part of the great state of Missouri. Established on November 25, 1820, it was one of the earliest designated counties in the state. The county derives its name from the Gasconade River, which runs through the region, and likely got its name from French settlers, who came from the Gascony region of France.

Gasconade County occupies 524 square miles and is characterized by rolling hills and fertile agricultural lands. Hermann, the largest city and county seat, was established in 1837 by the German Settlement Society of Philadelphia, which aimed to create a model German community in the United States.

The German heritage in Gasconade County has remained strong over time, with early settlers introducing vineyards and wineries to the region, contributing to Missouri's burgeoning wine industry. Today, Hermann continues to be recognized for its wineries and the Hermann Wine Trail, which attracts wine enthusiasts from across the nation.

One fun fact about this region of the USA is the Gasconade County Fair, hosted in Owensville, which is considered the largest and oldest fair in the state, dating back to the early 1900s. This annual event showcases the county's agricultural, artistic, and creative talents and provides entertainment, contests, and engaging activities for the whole family.
