Greene County, Missouri
.Greene County is located in the southwest region of the great state of Missouri. Established on January 2, 1833, it was named in honor of General Nathanael Greene, a prominent Revolutionary War hero. The area was originally inhabited by Native American tribes such as the Osage and Delaware before European settlers, primarily of Scots-Irish descent, began to arrive in the early 1800s.
The county seat, Springfield, was established in 1829 and is often referred to as the "Queen City of the Ozarks" and the "Birthplace of Route 66." Springfield played a significant role in the American Civil War, most notably as the site of the 1861 Battle of Wilson's Creek, which was the first major battle fought west of the Mississippi River.
