Stone County is a beautiful region located in the southwestern part of the state of Missouri. Established on February 10, 1851, the county was carved out of portions from neighboring Taney and Greene counties. Stone County is named in honor of William Stone, an early settler and English pioneer who played a significant role in the development of the local community. Covering an area of approximately 511 square miles, the county has its seat in Galena, a town also recognized for its rich history and scenic beauty.

In the early days, Stone County was primarily inhabited by Osage and Delaware Native American tribes before the arrival of European settlers. Throughout the 19th century, the region experienced an influx of pioneers attracted by the fertile soil and abundant natural resources, which led to a gradual expansion of the local economy. Agriculture, especially crop cultivation, and livestock rearing became integral components of the region's growth, with many family farms emerging in the area.

One fun fact about Stone County is its close proximity to Table Rock Lake, a major tourist attraction in the Ozarks. Completed in 1958, the man-made lake is perfect for boating, fishing, and water sports, drawing huge crowds each year. Additionally, the county is home to the stunning Dogwood Canyon Nature Park, which offers visitors a chance to explore the area's natural beauty and partake in various outdoor activities. These attractions contribute significantly to the local economy and make Stone County a popular destination for nature lovers and outdoor enthusiasts.
