Texas County is located in the south-central region of the great state of Missouri. It was established on February 14, 1845, and named in honor of the newly annexed state of Texas. The county seat is Houston, a small yet charming city with a rich history.

The area was initially inhabited by Native American tribes, such as the Osage and Delaware, before European settlement. In the early 19th century, European-American settlers began to establish communities in the region, particularly of German, English, Irish, and Scotch-Irish descent. The abundant natural resources and fertile soil attracted farmers and traders, and the area soon became known for its agricultural production.

During the Civil War, Missouri was a border state with competing Union and Confederate sympathies. The county saw some guerrilla warfare and was a part of the Ozark region, known for its civil unrest during that time. After the war, the county continued to grow, especially with the expansion of railroads and the advancement of modern agricultural practices.

One fun fact about Texas County is that it is Missouri's largest county by land area, covering approximately 1,179 square miles. Moreover, the county is home to several recreational attractions, including Montauk State Park, Boiling Springs Resort, and Piney River, which attract numerous visitors annually for camping, trout fishing, and canoeing.
