Front of the US quarter dollar coin   Mississippi State Quarter

The Mississippi state quarter was released in 2002 and was designed by Paul Jackson. It features a guitar, a banner saying "The Birthplace of America's Music," a trumpet, and an outline of the state of Mississippi. The guitar symbolizes the famous Delta blues, the trumpet stands for jazz music, and the banner honors the state's contribution to American music. The outline of Mississippi also serves as a reminder of the state's long history of being part of the Union.

The second Mississippi State Quarter

The Mississippi National Park quarter from the America the Beautiful Quarters program was issued on April 18, 2018. It is the 26th release in the America the Beautiful Quarters series, which began in 2010.

The obverse of the Mississippi National Park quarter features a portrait of George Washington, the first President of the United States, which has been featured on the obverse of all quarters since 1932.

The reverse of the coin depicts a view of the Vicksburg National Military Park in Vicksburg, Mississippi, which is a national park dedicated to the American Civil War. The reverse also features the inscription "Vicksburg" and "Mississippi." The design of the coin is meant to commemorate the heroic actions of the United States during the Siege of Vicksburg in 1863.

The Siege of Vicksburg was a key battle of the American Civil War, fought between the Union Army and the Confederate forces. The Union Army, led by General Ulysses S. Grant, was successful in their efforts to gain control of the city and the Mississippi River, thus effectively splitting the Confederate forces in two. This victory was a major turning point in the war, and the coin's design is meant to honor the brave soldiers who fought in the Battle of Vicksburg.

The America the Beautiful Quarters program was created to honor the beauty and history of the United States. Each release in the series features a design that celebrates a national park, forest, or monument from each of the 50 states, the District of Columbia, and the five U.S. territories. The Mississippi National Park quarter is a reminder of the history of the United States and a tribute to the brave soldiers who fought for it.
