Meagher County is located in north-central Montana and is the state's least populous county. The 2019 U.S. Census estimated the population to be 1,867 people, with about 90% of those residents being White and the remaining 10% comprising Native American, Hispanic, African American, and Asian Americans. The median household income is $44,639 and a quarter of households live below the poverty line.
The county is primarily rural and agricultural; most of the land is owned by farmers, ranchers, and government agencies such as the Bureau of Land Management. There are few towns in the county; the largest is White Sulphur Springs which has a population of about 900 people. It is home to two schools, one hospital, and a post office which serves as an important hub for local businesses.
The area experiences all four seasons with hot summers and cold winters. The county also has abundant wildlife including deer, elk, antelope, moose, and bighorn sheep.
