Roosevelt County, located in the great state of Montana, was established on February 18, 1919. The county is named in honor of the 26th President of the United States, Theodore Roosevelt, who was a prominent figure in American history and known for his conservation efforts.

The county is situated in the northeastern part of Montana and covers an area of 2,369 square miles. The land mostly consists of prairie, with the Missouri River defining its southern border. Agriculture and ranching have been significant contributors to the county's economy, with wheat and cattle as primary products.

Roosevelt County has a rich cultural history as well, as it is home to the Fort Peck Indian Reservation. The reservation covers a large portion of the county and is inhabited by members of the Sioux and Assiniboine tribes. Their distinctive cultural traditions and history continue to enrich the region.

One fun fact about Roosevelt County is that it is home to the Fort Peck Dam, the largest earth-filled dam in the United States. Constructed in the 1930s as part of the New Deal's Public Works Administration, the dam helps provide flood control, hydropower, and water for irrigation. Additionally, the Fort Peck Lake created by the dam is a popular spot for fishing, boating, and other outdoor recreational activities, attracting numerous visitors each year.
