Thanks for visiting my website! I've lived in Mt. Airy since 1980 - moved down here from the Philadelphia area - I guess you know what that makes me! I have raised 4 kids here! Love it! Love it! Love it! It's a great town to live in - took me a little time to get use to how nice everyone is. The schools here are great & if your kids want to participate in sports, drama, music - they can. Scouts are still big here - in fact I was the girl scout leader of all of my girls troops. Its the kind of town that when you go to the grocery store to pick up 3 items - you're there for 30 minutes chatting with everyone - including your kids teachers so you KNOW what they are doing! The town is growing - it's not really Mayberry, but it still feels small enough. We do have a supercenter Walmart BUT our Walmart raised the most money in the nation last year for a the Mircacle Network. That should tell you something! Our downtown is alive and hopping and it's ONE-WAY - so you have to get use to the streets. The Arts Council has done a fantastic job here. It's pretty impressive - we even have an outdoor amphitheater that has live music - beach, rock & yes, bluegrass, during the summer. Shelton Vineyards (the largest vineyard in NC) is located nearby & serves wine at these concerts as well as hosting their own in Dobson. There's a community college there that teaches one of the only programs about how to grow grapes - that's bringing people here. I kid people and tell them that our agriculture is going from tobacco to grapes - we're giving up smoking and going to drinking! There are things here that you just have to come to appreciate - we're 20 minutes from the Blue Ridge Parkway & there's lots of unique restaurants there. A local gal, Donna Jackson, started the "Gallery Group" - for the handicap to enjoy the arts. She has a gallery on Main St. that host both local artists and the students - it's a tearjerking moment to go in there! Chris Wishart opened a restaurant downtown called Trio's - it's located in the Emporium - it's fantastic! We have a great golf course here - Cross Creek Country Club is an 18 hole corse that redid the course a couple of years ago - and if you are a golfer - it's great! We host "Mayberry Days" if you are an Andy Griffith fan. Autumn Leaves is AWESOME! There's alot to do and alot to see - but don't just drive down Hwy. 52 - get off the highway and come by and see us. I'm proud this is my home. If you are looking for a home to raise a family or slow down - you'll love it here. Feel free to give me a call or facebook me - but don't take me too seriously on facebook - I like to post ridiculous things there just to get a good chuckle. Thanks! Alison Johnson
