Gage County is located in the southeastern part of Nebraska, within the region known as the Great Plains. Established in 1855, it is named after W.D. Gage, an early political figure in the state. Beatrice, the county seat, was founded in 1857 and was named after Julia Beatrice Kinney, the daughter of one of the original settlers in the area.

The county has a rich agricultural history, with fertile lands ideal for farming wheat, corn, and other crops. Early settlers were drawn to the region due to the vast natural resources, such as the Big Blue River, which provided access to water and fertile soils. The Homestead Act of 1862 accelerated the settlement process, with many pioneers attracted to the abundant agricultural opportunities provided by GAGE County.

The railroad played an integral role in the county's growth, connecting it to other parts of the state and country. The Chicago, Burlington and Quincy Railroad was the vital link that facilitated the transport of goods and people in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.

Today, Gage County is a hub for manufacturing, advanced agriculture, and renewable energy. It offers an enjoyable quality of life for its residents, with unique attractions, a strong sense of community, and recreational opportunities.

Fun Fact: Gage County is home to the Homestead National Historical Park, which commemorates the Homestead Act of 1862 and its impact on westward expansion in the United States.
