.Phelps County is located in the southern-central part of the state of Nebraska, in the United States. Established in 1873, the county is named in honor of William H. The county seat, Holdrege, was established in 1883 and named after George W. Holdrege, a prominent official of the Burlington & Missouri River Railroad Company.
