Grafton County, located in the great state of New Hampshire, has a rich and diverse history that dates back to its establishment in 1769. The county was named in honor of Augustus FitzRoy, the third Duke of Grafton, who served as the British prime minister between 1768 and 1770. Covering around 1,750 square miles, Grafton County is situated in the heart of the scenic White Mountains region of the state.

During its early days, one of the county's primary economic activities was timber harvesting, which served as a foundation for the growth of the lumber and paper industries. The county also flourished with farming, particularly dairy farming, as well as the manufacturing of various wood products, mining, and leather goods production.

Throughout the 19th and early 20th centuries, Grafton County experienced growth in transportation and infrastructure, with the introduction of railroads and mills, which connected the county to other parts of New Hampshire and neighboring states.

In addition to its industrial history, Grafton County also boasts a thriving cultural and educational hub. Two notable institutions that were established in the area include Dartmouth College, an Ivy League university founded in 1769 in Hanover, and the prestigious Tuck School of Business, which is the first graduate school of management in the U.S., founded in 1900.

A fun fact about this picturesque region of the USA is that it is home to the one-and-only "Ski-In, Ski-Out McDonald's" in the world. Located in Lincoln, New Hampshire, this unique restaurant is nestled on a ski slope at the base of the Loon Mountain. It serves as a convenient stop for skiers and snowboarders to grab a quick bite before hitting the slopes again.
