1. Madison is a borough in Morris County, New Jersey, United States. As of the 2010 United States Census, the borough's population was 15,845, reflecting a decline of 685 (-4.2%) from the 16,530 counted in the 2000 Census, which had in turn increased by 680 (+4.3%) from the 15,850 counted in the 1990 Census.

2. Madison was incorporated as a borough by an act of the New Jersey Legislature on March 5, 1839, from portions of Chatham Township, based on the results of a referendum held that day. The borough was named for James Madison, fourth President of the United States of America.

3. Madison is known as "The Rose City," due to its large rose-growing industry in the 19th century. It was once home to the world's largest rose grower, William Prince and Sons.

4. Madison is home to Drew University, a private university founded in 1867 and located on a wooded, 186-acre campus.

5. Madison is also home to Fairleigh Dickinson University's Florham Campus, which was formerly the estate of Hamilton McKown Twombly and his wife Florence Adele Vanderbilt Twombly.

6. The Madison Public Library was founded in 1895 and is one of the oldest public libraries in New Jersey.
