Brewster, New York is a historic village located within the Town of Southeast in Putnam County. It was originally settled as "inland" by farmers in the late 17th century, but it was named after Walter Brewster, a leader in the Separatist movement who came over on the Mayflower. Brewster is home to the Southeast Museum, which has exhibits that tell the town's story from its earliest days to modern times. It is also the location of the Great Swamp, which is designated as a wetland of international importance and protected for wildlife conservation purposes. The village is easily accessible by train, with a Metro-North station that provides regular service to New York City.
