One fun fact about the town of Le Roy, New York is that it was the birthplace of Jell-O. In 1897, a carpenter and cough syrup manufacturer in Le Roy named Pearle Bixby Wait came up with the idea of adding fruit flavoring to granulated gelatin. He and his wife named the dessert Jell-O and sold the rights to the idea to a company that became the Jell-O brand we know today.
