Schenectady, New York is a city located in Schenectady County in the state of New York, USA. It is situated near the Mohawk River and is approximately 15 miles northwest of the capital, Albany. The city has a population of around 66,000 people, making it the ninth-largest city in Upstate New York.

Schenectady was founded in the early 17th century and has been shaped by its industrial and manufacturing history, particularly in the fields of electricity and refrigeration. Notably, the city was home to the General Electric Company's main research and development facility until its closure in 2016.

The city is also home to a number of cultural and educational institutions, including Union College, Proctors Theater, and the Schenectady County Historical Society.
