A fun and verifiable fact about the village of Elbridge, New York is that it is the birthplace of famous suffragette and women's rights activist Matilda Joslyn Gage. Born in 1826, Gage was instrumental in the fight for women's suffrage and played a key role in organizing the famous Seneca Falls Convention of 1848. She also wrote and published several influential works on women's rights and was an outspoken critic of the male-dominated Christian church. She passed away in 1898 and is buried in Fayetteville, New York. Today, her legacy and contributions to the women's rights movement are celebrated and remembered in Elbridge and beyond.
