Harrison County is located in the eastern part of the great state of Ohio, USA. The county was formed on February 1, 1813, and was named in honor of General William Henry Harrison, who later became the ninth President of the United States.
Harrison County's rich history can be traced back to the time of Native American settlements. When European settlers arrived in the 18th century, the area was inhabited by the Wyandot and Delaware tribes. Much of the county's growth was attributed to the land grants given to Revolutionary War veterans, which led to an increase in population and a subsequent boom of agricultural and industrial development in the region.
One significant development in Harrison County history was the construction of the Ohio and Erie Canal in the 1820s and 1830s.
