Jackson County is located in the southeastern part of the great state of Ohio. Established on March 1, 1816, it was named in honor of Andrew Jackson, the seventh President of the United States, who was at that time a famous war hero from the War of 1812. The county boasts a rich history tied to the Native American tribes, European settlers, and the industrial revolution.

Before European settlement, the area was inhabited by the Shawnee and other Native American tribes. European settlers, mostly of English, Welsh, and Irish descent, began arriving in the late 1700s, attracted by the abundant timber, fertile soil, and mineral resources, such as coal, iron, salt, and clay.

In the 1800s, Jackson County saw significant industrial growth, particularly in the mining and furniture manufacturing industries. The development of the Ohio River facilitated trade and transport of goods, attracting more people to live and work in the region.

One fun fact about Jackson County is that it is home to the famous Buckeye Furnace, a reconstructed charcoal-fired iron blast furnace located in the Buckeye Furnace State Memorial. The furnace, which operated from 1852 to 1894, stands as a testament to Ohio's iron-producing heritage and provides visitors with a glimpse into the past industrial prowess of the region.
