Wood County is situated in the northwestern part of the great state of Ohio. Established on February 12, 1820, it owes its name to Captain Eleazer D. Wood, a notable engineer during the War of 1812. The county seat, Bowling Green, was chosen in 1868 after the courthouse at the time, Perrysburg, was deemed too far from the geographical center. The population has grown considerably since the 1800s and is now approximately 130,000 residents strong.

Wood County thrived on its rich agricultural land and its proximity to important waterways, including the Maumee River, which played a key role in its development as a trading hub. Lumber, grain, and agricultural products were the primary drivers of its early economic growth. The county's location along railroad lines further contributed to its industrial progress.

A fun fact about this region is the existence of the Black Swamp Arts Festival, an annual event held in Bowling Green since 1993. The festival features more than 100 visual artists, live music, and various art projects, attracting thousands of visitors who wish to engage with the county's vibrant arts scene.
