One fun fact about Marietta, Ohio is that it is known as the "first permanent settlement of the Northwest Territory" because it was the first organized settlement in what would eventually become Ohio. It was established in 1788 by a group of 48 veterans of the American Revolutionary War. The settlement was named in honor of Queen Marie Antoinette of France, who had supported the colonists during the war.
