Creek County, located in the northeastern part of Oklahoma, was officially founded on August 21, 1907, as part of Oklahoma statehood, although its roots can be traced back even further. The county was named after the Muscogee Creek Native American tribe that was forcibly relocated to Indian Territory as a result of the Indian Removal Act of 1830. A significant portion of the Creek Indians' land was opened for settlement in the Land Run of 1891.

Creek County's early economy was mainly driven by agriculture, ranching, and the discovery of oil in the early 20th century. The town of Sapulpa, which serves as the county seat, saw considerable growth during this time. The development of railroads and highways, including the iconic Route 66, further bolstered the region's growth.

One fun fact about Creek County is that it is home to the historic Rock Creek Bridge. This 1924 steel truss bridge is part of the famous Route 66 and stretches for 120 feet over Rock Creek in Sapulpa, Oklahoma. It has become a popular spot for tourists and Route 66 enthusiasts who come to see and photograph this iconic piece of American history.
