Pawnee County is a county located in the north-central part of the U.S. state of Oklahoma. As of the 2010 census, the population was 16,577. Its county seat is Pawnee. The section line roads are laid out according to the Indian Meridian. The county was named for the Pawnee tribe of Native Americans, who had occupied the area for centuries.
The county was formed on September 16, 1893, as part of the Cherokee Outlet Opening, and was designated County "Q" of Oklahoma Territory. Later, when Oklahoma became a state in 1907, present-day Pawnee County became part of it. Among its early inhabitants were the Quapaw and Osage tribes before European settlers began moving into the region in the nineteenth century.
Pawnee County became a thriving agricultural community with wheat, corn, and cattle as primary products. In the 20th century, oil was discovered, leading to a financial boom for the area. While the oil industry has since seen its ups and downs, it still remains a significant part of the county's economy.

The ranch hosts a variety of events throughout the year, including an annual Wild West Show, drawing visitors from all over the country to experience a taste of the Wild West in Oklahoma.
