Pottawatomie County, located in the great state of Oklahoma, has a rich history dating back to the early 1800s. The area was originally inhabited by Native American tribes, primarily the Potawatomi, from which the county derives its name. These groups were relocated to the region as part of the Indian Removal Act of 1830. The county was officially established on September 22, 1891, during the land run when it was opened to non-Indian settlers.

Throughout its history, agriculture played a crucial role in the county's economy, with cotton and wheat being the primary crops grown. During the early 20th century, oil and gas production also emerged as significant industries in Pottawatomie County.

One fun fact about this region is that it is home to the Maud City Park Pecan Grove, which boasts one of the largest and oldest pecan groves in Oklahoma, with some trees estimated to be over 1,000 years old.
