Linn of Missouri, who was an advocate for the Oregon Territory, the county covers an area of approximately 2,299 square miles in the Willamette Valley region. Its county seat is the city of Albany, which is also the largest city in the county.

Early industries in the area included agriculture, logging, and milling, which played foundational roles in the development of the county.

Linn County is home to multiple historic covered bridges, which were essential transportation infrastructures for communities in the 20th century. In recent years, many of these iconic covered bridges have been restored and preserved for future generations.
