JAMES J. GELATT
Born in Brooklyn, New York, Jim was one of six children. At the age of 16, he moved to the lake area, and although the adjustment was difficult for him at first, he has grown to love this area over the years. He graduated from the original Hawley High School and was in the Sports Hall of Fame of Wayne County for basketball, baseball and soccer. Jim likes hunting, fishing, anything outdoors, and is an avid golfer, holding a membership in prestigious Paupack Hills Golf and Country Club.
He served in the Air Force for four years, part of the time playing basketball for the US Air Force team. During his service he had the opportunity to travel all over the world, but chose to return to Pennsylvania to live when he was discharged from active duty.
After the service Jim went to work for PP&L Electric as a lineman, and stayed with the company for 35 years. During this time he obtained his Pennsylvania Realtors license and began selling real estate part time on the weekends.
He also was a businessman, at different times owning and operating several establishments in the area, notably Minis Diner, Jims Gulf Station, and the Fife and Drum Hotel in Honesdale.
Jim Gelatt has been a full time Realtor with Chant Realtors since the mid 1980s, after retiring from PP&L. He also serves on the Pike County Board of Appeals and the Pike County Board of Review. His knowledge of the area is extensive, and his experience on the tax governing boards, as well as course work completed for appraisals, makes him highly qualified to give accurate property evaluations to those considering listing their homes on the market. Jim is a member of the Pike/Wayne Board of Realtors and has also recently obtained his New York State Realtors license.
Jim currently resides in Paupack, Pennsylvania with his wife, Debbie, and their Portuguese Water Dog, Chester. He is the proud Father of four and Grandfather of 13!
Jim specializes in lakefront, lake rights, full amenity community, acreage, lake wallenpaupack and vacation home transactions.
