Then read on!

A fun and verifiable fact about the village of Wormleysburg, Pennsylvania is that it was the site of the first recorded airplane flight in Pennsylvania. On October 4, 1909, aviator Gustav Weisskopf, also known as "The Flying Yankee," flew his plane, named No. 21 or "The Bat," from a field in Wormleysburg and reportedly traveled about one and a half miles at an altitude of about 50 feet. While there is some debate over whether Weisskopf's flight actually occurred or not, it is largely accepted as fact within the community and is celebrated annually with events such as the Wrightsville-Wormleysburg Bridge Day, which features a parade, live music, and other festivities.
