Dauphin County, located in the great state of Pennsylvania, was established on March 4, 1785, and was carved out of sections of Lancaster County. It is named after the Dauphin of France, heir to the French throne, as a way to honor France's role in the American Revolution. The county's capital is Harrisburg, which also serves as the Pennsylvania state capital.

The region was initially settled by an influx of German and Scottish-Irish immigrants during the 18th century. The area played a notable role during the early days of the United States, as events like the 1863 Harrisburg Train Derailment and the Groundbreaking for the Pennsylvania Railroad both occurred in Dauphin County. Due to its strategic location along the Susquehanna River, the county became a hub for transportation, commerce, and industry.

A fun fact about Dauphin County is that it's home to Hershey, Pennsylvania, widely known as "The Sweetest Place on Earth." The town was founded by chocolate magnate Milton S. Hershey, who built a chocolate factory and the model community of Hershey in the early 20th century. Today, Hershey is a widely recognized tourist destination, with attractions like Hersheypark, Chocolate World, and the Hershey Theatre drawing visitors from around the globe.
