Avella is a small village located in Washington County, Pennsylvania, with a population of approximately 800 people. It was named after one of the earliest settlers of the area, James Black.
The village has a long history of coal mining and agriculture, with many of its residents engaged in these industries. In the past, Avella was a major supplier of coal to neighboring regions and was served by the Western Maryland Railroad.
Today, Avella is a quiet community with a few small businesses and amenities, including a post office, a general store, and a community center. It is also known for its annual Avella Community Festival, which features food, games, and entertainment for residents and visitors alike.
