1. Claysburg was originally known as "Union Furnace" because of a furnace that was established in the area in the early 1800s.
2. The village was renamed Claysburg in honor of an early settler, John Claycomb.
3. In the late 1800s and early 1900s, Claysburg was a major producer of mushrooms, which were grown in the caves and mines in the area.
4. Today, Claysburg is known for its proximity to Blue Knob State Park, which is the highest mountain in Pennsylvania outside of the Poconos.
5. The village is also home to a number of historic sites and buildings, including the Claysburg-Kimmel High School, which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
6. Claysburg is a small community, with a population of just over 1,200 residents according to the 2010 census.
