Lansdale was once known as "Railroad Junction" because it served as a major center for the Pennsylvania Railroad in the 19th century. In fact, the town's original name was "Junction" before it was renamed in honor of Phillip Lansdale Fox, who was the chief surveyor of the North Penn Railroad. Today, you can still see remnants of the town's railroad history, including its 1902 train station building, which now serves as a SEPTA regional rail station.
