Freeland is a small town in Luzerne County, Pennsylvania, with a population of approximately 3,500 people. It was founded in the late 1800s as a coal mining town and was named for Joseph Freeland, a prominent businessman in the area at the time. The town's economy was dominated by the coal industry for many years, but has since diversified, with healthcare, education, and manufacturing also playing important roles in the local economy.
