One historical anecdote from Allentown, Pennsylvania is the story of the Liberty Bell Museum. During the American Revolutionary War, when British forces were advancing on the city of Philadelphia, the Liberty Bell was secretly moved from Independence Hall to Allentown, where it was hidden from the British in the basement of the Zion's Reformed Church. The Bell remained there for over a year, until after the British had withdrawn and it was safe to return it to Philadelphia. Today, the Zion's Church is home to the Liberty Bell Museum, which displays a full size replica of the Liberty Bell and other exhibits relating to the Revolutionary War and the founding of the United States.
