Donora, Pennsylvania is a small industrial town situated on the banks of the Monongahela River. It was once home to a thriving steel industry and played an important role in the development of the United States' steel production. However, in the 1940s, the town suffered from a tragic event known as the "Donora smog" where toxic smog from the mills caused numerous deaths and illnesses. Today, the town has a population of around 4,600 and is primarily a residential community with a few small businesses. Despite its troubled history, the town has a strong sense of community spirit and has worked hard to overcome its past.
