Philipsburg is a small borough located in Centre County, Pennsylvania. It was founded in 1797 as "Philipsburgh" by Englishman Colonel Samuel Philips. The town played an important role in the development of the Pennsylvania Railroad and served as a major shipping hub for coal during the 19th and early 20th centuries. Today, Philipsburg is a quiet residential community with a population of around 2,600.
