One fun and verifiable fact about Waymart, Pennsylvania is that it is home to the historic Stourbridge Lion locomotive, which was the first steam locomotive to run on commercial tracks in the United States. The Stourbridge Lion was built and tested in England before being shipped to the United States in 1829, where it was put into service on the Delaware and Hudson Canal Company's gravity railroad between Honesdale and Carbondale, Pennsylvania in 1829. Today, a replica of the Stourbridge Lion can be seen at the Wayne County Historical Society museum in Honesdale.
